GUWAHATI, July 29 - Local welfare societies of the city are planning to submit a memorandum to the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister suggesting some measures for preventing artificial floods in Guwahati, a problem which has become a major concern in recent years.

Dwip Baruah, president of Nabin Nagar Welfare Society, said that some of the local welfare societies and unnayan samitis have drafted a memorandum and will soon hand it over to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Guwahati Development Department minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The memorandum will also be sent to the Prime Minister.

The Nabin Nagar Welfare Society, the Anil Nagar Rajgarh Unnayan Samiti and some other local groups have contributed to the effort, taking feedbacks from experts.

We also want more local welfare societies of Guwahati to be part of the exercise and they can contact the Nabin Nagar Welfare Society or the Anil Nagar Rajgarh Unnayan Samiti in this regard, Baruah said.
