Weightlifting coach passes away

GUWAHATI, Nov 4 - Noted weightlifting coach of the State Ajit Kumar Baishya passed away at his Fatasil Ambari residence here on Saturday night. He was around 60.

A former employee of the Directorate of Sports and Sports Authority of India, he was suffering from a disease since a long time. However, he continued his coaching with an ill health and produced several State and national level weightlifters.

After completing his schooling in Shillong, Baishya did his graduation from Cotton College and post graduation from Gauhati University. He took his coach�s diploma from NIS Patiala in weightlifting and offered his service as a coach for the cause of weightlifting in the State.

He leaves behind his wife and a son.
