Weightlifter wins silver medal

IMPHAL, July 6 � Manipur�s weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai has bagged a silver medal to add to India�s medals tally of three silver and a bronze in the 20th Women�s and 27th Men�s Asian Junior Championships in Bishkek, Krygyzstan.

Last month, 18-year-old Mirabai won three bronze medals in women�s 48 kg at the Junior Weightlifting World Championship in Lima.

School soccer meet: The 3-day State level Subroto Mukherjee Football Tournament for U-17 girls started at the Khuman Lampak main stadium ground here today.

On the first day of the championship, St George School, Ukhrul lost to RSB School, Bishnupur 0-4 while Nilamani English School beat New Life Academy 14-0. In the third match, Victoria High School defeated Sainik School 8-0. Altogether 7 teams are participating in the tournament.

Meanwhile, the 14th S Birendra Singh Super Division Football League will start at SAI North Eastern Region football ground at Takyelpat in Imphal from July 11. A total of 7 teams from various parts of the State would compete in the forthcoming tourney.
