Weekly Mangal Batori celebrates 40th anniversary

By Correspondent

MANGALDAI, April 15 - Its not very difficult to start publishing a small newspaper, but it is almost impossible to run it continuously for 40 long years in a small township like Mangaldai, that too without any commercial motive. But Prasanta Barua, the editor and publisher despite acute financial crisis has proved all such observations wrong with his determination, courage and social responsibilities and kept on publishing Mangal Batori, observed Mangaldai legislator Guru Jyoti Das while taking part as the chief guest in the 40th anniversary celebration of Mangal Batori, the only Assamese weekly published from Mangaldai at Youth Club auditorium here on Tuesday afternoon. Das also termed Prasanta Barua as the symbol of honesty and ethics.

Synchronizing with the celebration, the management also offered felicitation to retired administrative officer Tapeswar Sarma for receiving the Sahitya Akademi award for translation of Upanishads into Assamese for the year 2016. Legislator Guru Jyoti Das on behalf of the management handed over the citation letter to Sarma in the function presided over by Principal of Mangaldai College and a former journalist Dr Khagendra Kumar Nath.
