Weavers� credit card issuing process begins

SUALKUCHI, Feb 27 � The process of issuing weavers credit card to the weavers and the ancillaries sponsored by the Development Commissioner for Handloom, Ministry of Textiles, by organising awareness meet and receiving the application forms from the weavers was launched on some time back at Sualkuchi.

The Weavers� Service Centre, Guwahati in coordination with the State Handloom and Textiles, Assam organised the meeting and collected the application forms applied for the weavers� credit cards. Participating the meeting Ramesh Banikya, deputy director, Weavers� Service Centre explained the very concept of the scheme. He said the Government of India declared the scheme to the weavers and the helpers in the handlooms to help them increase the working capital for installing more looms.

He called upon the weavers to come forward to get the benefit of the scheme.

Addressing the gathering Sarbeswar Das, technical superintendent, Weavers� Service Centre explained the details about terms and conditions of getting the credit cards. He said the applicant should attach weavers� identification certificate issued either by the Handloom and Textiles Department or by the Handloom Co-operative Society. Identity card received from ICIC Bank for health insurance might be produced as the weavers� identity card. Two copies of passport size photograph and photo copy of family identity card or the voter list are other documents must be enclosed in the application, he said.

The meeting was addressed by B Medhi DHO and Ratneswar Kalita senior inspector of handloom textiles dept.

SBMS College principal: �To impart education to the students for effective learning, development of academic infrastructure is essential. For this purpose, a well- equipped classroom is a must. So to build up a healthy education atmosphere in the college, efforts will be made to arrange clasroom with modern technology for successful teaching learning process.� This was disclosed by Dr Dipesh Chandra Bhagawati, who took charge as the permanent principal of Sualkuchi Budram Madhab Satradhikar College recently.

Dr Bhagawati served at Tihu College for 26 years and was the head of department of Education of the college.
