We dont have right candidate: AIUDF

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 7 - The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) today said that it has urged the electorate of the Lakhimpur Lok Sabha constituency to cast their votes in favour of candidates belonging to secular parties.

Addressing a press meet, AIUDF general secretary and MLA Hafiz Bashir Ahmed Kasimi said, We do not have the right candidate to put up in the bypoll and our organisational base is also not very strong across the entire constituency. So we urge the people to support candidates representing secular forces.

Kasimi added that some political and non-political organisations have charged the AIUDF and its party chief Badruddin Ajmal with being communal and said such allegations are baseless.

Since the formation of our party nobody has been able to term us communal. We believe in the Indian Constitution and in the principles of secularism and democracy. We believe in the composite culture of Assam and we seek to represent the diversity of the State, he said.

Kasimi added that the AIUDF has senior leaders from various communities occupying important positions in the party hierarchy.
