Wait for tech examination of Brahmaputra water: Rijiju

By SPL CORRESPONDENT

NEW DELHI, Dec 6 - Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju today played safe and declined comment on the change in the Brahmaputra water on the ground that a technical examination was yet to be carried out.

Talking to newsmen here, Rijiju said it was not proper to talk about the Brahmaputra river water without any technical examination. We are keeping a close watch was all he was willing to comment.

Abnormal deviations have been noticed in the colour and quality of the Brahmaputra water for the past couple of days. The development, coming close on the heels of reports of the Siang water turning muddy in Arunachal Pradesh for over a week now, has sent the alarm bells ringing in the downstream state of Assam. Turbidity apart, the water level in the Siang was also said to be receding abnormally.

Asked whether China was trying to divert the Brahmaputra, Rijiju said it was not easy to divert the river because it is not a channel. It cannot be done without India noticing it, he asserted.
