Voting for Rajya Sabha seats underway in 4 States

Lucknow, March 23 (IANS): Voting is under way here on Friday to elect 10 Rajya Sabha members from Uttar Pradesh.

Voting for the crucial polls began at 9 a.m., at the Tilak hall in the Vidhan Sabha building. It will conclude at 4 p.m., after which counting will begin at 5 p.m.

BJP has fielded nine candidates while the SP and BSP have named one each.

HYDERABAD: Polling is under way on Friday for the three Rajya Sabha seats in Telangana. Members of the state Legislative Assembly began casting their votes at 9 a.m. and the process will continue till 4 p.m., officials said. The counting of votes will begin at 5 p.m. and the results are likely to be announced an hour later.

BANGALURU: Polling is also underway for four Rajya Sabha seats in Karnataka.

"Polling began at 9 a.m., on a steady note in the State legislature building to elect four of the five candidates in the fray for the Upper House seats," said an election official.

Five candidates, including three from the ruling Congress and one each from the opposition -- Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) -- are contesting for the four seats.

KOLKATA: Voting is under way here on Friday to elect five Rajya Sabha members from West Bengal.

Six candidates are in the fray for the biennial election to the Upper House of Parliament.
