Voters boycott polls in Nalbari village

NALBARI, April 11 � Altogether 1,610 voters of Rangaphali village under Nalbari Legislative Assembly Constituency boycotted the polls in protest against the government�s apathy towards the area. Two polling stations of the village recorded zero polling.

�No political parties and their representative in the constituency have come to realise the problems of the voters of this area for years,� a youth of the village Anjan Ramchiary said. He added that the villagers met at the village and decided to boycott the polls only to register their grievances.

On the other hand, two persons Rubul Kakati and Maneswar Talukdar were injured when the police resorted to lathi charge at Mukalmua in Nalbari district this evening.

According to sources two vehicles were proceeding from Mukalmua with voting machines after election towards Nalbari without security cover. The AGP candidate and his supporters gheraoed the Circle Officer Disanta Baishya and demanded to know about the vehicle missing from Mukalmua area. Pulakesh Baruah has lodged a complaint with the District Election Officer in this connection.
