Volkswagen to localise Creta-rival SUV

By The Assam Tribune

As carmakers have been showing a lot of interest in the sub-4m compact SUV segment, Volkswagen too will not fall short of pulling a few tricks in the segment. So, the German carmaker also wants to consolidate its position in the compact SUV space.

So, Volkswagen is planning to localize the Polo-based compact SUV for the Indian market. The revelation was made at the Paris Motor Show, when the Volkswagen said that it would localize its compact SUV.

The Volkswagen will use the MQB A0 platform to underpin the compact SUV, which will also be shared by the next-gen Polo. The launch of the new compact SUV will also likely take place in 2018.

It will also be inspired by the T-Cross Breeze in its design, which was showcased at the Geneva Motor Show. The designing cues are likely to be strong, lean, aggressive and muscular.

With such design traits, it will take on the Hyundai Creta. The new compact SUV will pose some competition for the Creta due to its performance, styling, etc. The design is also newly evolved to boast of the latest VW styling cues. Despite the compact SUV styling, the interiors will be spacious as well in the SUV. Its tall styling will also lead to more rear space as well.

The Volkswagen compact SUV will be powered by a 4-cylinder, 1.2-litre,TSI petrol motor that will pump up to 112 hp. The diesel option will be a 1.5-litre TDI, which will make about 117 hp. And for the international markets, it is likely to be offered with a three-cylinder, 1.0-litre TSI petrol motor.

The price of the new compact SUV will likely be aggressive. Hence the Volkswagen shows interests in localizing the SUV in India to price it quite reasonably.
