GUWAHATI, Feb 1 � The Vivekananda Kendra Institute of Culture (VKIC) Sanmaan 2011 was conferred on Kum Aningiu Meriam, vice president of Zeliangrong Mipui of Nagaland on the occasion of foundation day of the institute held at Guwahati on January 31.
The annual award is given for significant contribution to the society in the field of preservation, protection and advancement of traditional culture.
Meriam received the award from eminent journalist Radhika Mohan Bhagawati who was present as the chief guest of the programme. Dipok Kumar Borthakur, chairman, VKIC delivered the welcome address describing the objectives of the programme.
Dinesh Chandra Baroowa, director of the research council of the institute described about the significance of the foundation day and the VKIC Sanmaan. The award consists of a citation, a plaque and a cash award of Rs 10,000, a statement mentioned.
In her acceptance speech, Meriam said that the award given to her is a recognition of the work collectively done by different organisations in the most volatile and disturbed situation in Nagaland. �This award is also an honour to all such workers who are involved in course of sustaining the socio-cultural fabric of the Zeliangrong Naga community.
