SILCHAR, Sept 14 - Giving a strong challenge to the claims of Cachar Police terming the rampant instances of alleged dacoity and theft of essentials, including the NRC documents, across the district as �rumours�, dacoits barged into the residence of Alim Uddin at Noon Nagar village under Katigorah constituency on Monday midnight.
According to sources, the incident took place when a gang of four armed dacoits, with their faces covered, broke into the residence and threatened the family members to hand over the NRC documents. But since the family members raised a hue and cry, the dacoits fled the spot with vital documents.
Abu Bakkar, secretary of the local Village Defence Party said, �The dacoits fled the spot with vital documents like voter ID cards, birth certificates etc. An FIR has been lodged at the Katigorah police station in this regard.�
He informed that the family was also targeted by dacoits in November last year. Meanwhile, Additional SP Cachar Ramandeep Kaur rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.
