NAGAON, May 6 Violent incidents marred the Assam bandh called today by the Non-Bodo Security Samity against the BTAD violence, which partially affected life in the district with most people deciding not to stay indoors and several and establishments also functioning normally.

Bandh supporters created an unruly situation first in the Haibargaon area. They had taken out a peace procession from Dhing Gate to Nehrubali, but on their way back they started attacking small wayside shops. The protesters, who had weapons in their hands, also attacked vegetable vendors and fruit sellers and damaged furniture and other assets in some business establishments. It is alleged that agitators also took away eggs, vegetables, fruits, etc, from the small traders.

When public protested against the vandalism and sought police assistance, police resorted to lathicharge and chased the bandh supporters away. However, the protesters pelted stones at the police, causing injuries to a few personnel.

An unruly situation was also witnessed in the Sunaribali area of Samaguri LAC, where bandh supporters pelted stones at moving vehicles. Several passengers were

injured and some vehicles were damaged in the attack.
