Violence in State will be dealt with firmly: DGP

By CORRESPONDENT

DERGAON, March 9 No one will be allowed to cause restlessness in the State. All forms of violence will be dealt with strictly. Action will be taken against any law breaker as per the law. This was stated by State Director General of Police (DGP) Khaogen Sarma here this evening.

Replying to a question DGP Sarma opined that the law is equal for all and hence no one will be allowed to do anything against the law. Asked why some others accused along with KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi had not been arrested, he asserted that action would be taken against them also.

The DGP also opined that some cases could be given due priority than other cases depending upon the gravity of the situation. He however made it clear that no accused person can escape the law.

On the other hand, replying to a question on the increase in cases of police-public clashes in the State, DGP Sarma opined that this happened because at times the public tended to become quite aggressive. But he hastened to add that such incidents did not bring about any major rifts between the police and public.

The State DGP also stated that some such clashes happened because of third parties working behind the scene. He asserted that strict action would be taken against such persons.

DGP Sarma was here to take part in the closing ceremony of the 24th Assam Police Annual Sports Meet held at the PTC Stadium here this evening.
