TINSUKIA, March 18 � Being deprived of proper communication facilities due to the absence of a bridge, the villagers of No. 1 Holunguri village under the Bijulibon Gaon Panchayat of Buridehing mouza in Margherita LAC of Tinsukia district have come out to build a pucca bridge on their own. The villagers are contributing both labour and requisite materials for the construction of the bridge.
The villagers alleged that five years back, the Congress candidate for the Margherita LAC, Pradyut Bordoloi had given an assurance that the bridge would be constructed and electricity would be provided in the area. But nothing has been done till date. The villagers stated that at that time, Bordoloi gave a sum of Rs 10,000. But the villagers have to construct a makeshift bamboo bridge every year after the rainy season and it costs more than Rs 10,000. They further alleged that Paban Singh Ghatowar, who represents the Dibrugarh Parliamentary Constituency under which the area falls, has never visited the area which still lacks electricity. Significantly, the local MLA himself has been the Power Minister of the State for several years now. The villagers have also decided to boycott the ensuing Lok Sabha elections over their grievances.
