Villagers hand over 24 suspected dacoits

TURA, Nov 4 - Villagers near Tikrikilla handed over two dozen people to the police after complaints of highway dacoity cases coming from near the town.

According to locals, the highway through the town had seen a series of robberies and the police requested for help of villagers following which they brought a total of 24 suspects to the police.

Of the 24, eleven were arrested after they confessed of their involvement in dacoity activities. Four of the 11 arrested were juveniles and sent to juvenile home.

Meanwhile, two suspected cadres of Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) were arrested by police from Rongram in West Garo Hills. Interrogation of the arrested cadres is underway.
