NAGAON, Aug 22 � One Mintu Ahmed of Panikhaiti village who was beaten up by the public last night at village Ujaragaon after being caught red-handed while stealing telephone cables along with three others, died this morning. The other three managed to escape.
After getting news of his death Panikhaiti villagers attacked and burned down some houses, vehicles and damaged property at Ujaragaon village. Later police arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control.
Although attempts were made to give the incident a communal colour, serious efforts by conscious people prevented deterioration of the situation.
