GUWAHATI, Oct 25 - Host Vidarbha recorded a three-wicket victory against Assam in their Ranji Trophy Group A match.
Requaring 213 for an outright victory in the second innings at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium Jamtha, Nagpur, the hosts scored 215 for the loss of seven wickets in 74 overs on the final day today.
Overnight unbeated openers Faiz Fazal (63) and Washim Zafar (71), who were at the crease with 38 and 43 respectively, added 124 runs for the opening wicket partnership. But after the departure of the openers the Vidarbha team had to face a tough situation as the Assam bowlers took five wickets within a span of nine runs. However, the eighth wicket partnership between SS Ruikar (not out 4) and Umesh Yadav (not out 6) saw the day through for the hosts.
Sarupam Purkayastha and Amit Verma took three wickets each for the visitors.
With this outright victory Vidarbha garnered six points and placed third in the table with 10 points. Assam is at the second spot (10 points) while Delhi is at the top with 14 points.
