GUWAHATI, Oct 24 - Spinners debutante Aditya Sarwat (6/64) and Akshay Wakhare (4/37) wrecked Assam's second innings and placed Vidarbha in a comfortable position to win the Ranji Trophy Group A match.
At the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium Jamtha, Nagpur today, the hosts were 88 for no loss chasing a winning target of 231. Openers Faiz Fazal and Washim Zafar were at the crease with 38 and 43 respectively.
Assam batsmen, resuming at the overnight total of 36 for two, fell cheaply on the third day as they were all out for 160 in 81.3 overs.
On a spin-friendly track the south paw Aditya was in devastating form and virtually mesmerized the Assam batsmen with his turners. He was well supported by right arm off-break bowler Akshay and both were enough finish off the Assam innings before the tea break.
Today Assam batsmen fell like nine pins as except Sarupam Purkayastha (35 off 57 balls), Amit Verma (28 off 130 balls) and Tarjinder Singh (22 off 118 balls) other batsmen failed to handle the tricky stuffs of Aditya and Akshay. Now the host team requires only 125 with all 10 wickets in hand.
