Vice President arrives in Itanagar

ITANAGAR, June 15 - Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu arrived here today on a two-day tour to the State capital. This is his maiden visit to the frontier State.

Naidu was received by State Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (retd) and Chief Minister Pema Khandu on his arrival at the Raj Bhavan here. Others who were present at the reception included Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, Power Minister Tamiyo Taga and other Cabinet ministers and senior State Government officers.

A ceremonial guard of honour was presented to the Vice President by Arunachal Pradesh Police personnel at the Raj Bhavan premises.

Later, the Vice President had a brief interaction with the Governor, Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and Chief Secretary Satya Gopal.

Earlier, the Vice President arrived at the Lilabari Airport in Assam from where he travelled by road for two hours to reach the Arunachal Pradesh capital as the weather did not permit him to go in a chopper.

In the morning, Naidu arrived at the Bagdogra airport from where he was supposed to fly to the Libing Army helipad in Gangtok for a two-day visit to Sikkim which had to be cancelled due to inclement weather.

The Vice President in a tweet said that since the weather is not permitting to fly to Gangtok, he would plan to proceed to Itanagar.

The Vice President will lay the foundation stone of a seepage management and storm water drainage system here tomorrow. He will also address research scholars and faculty members of the NERIST at Nirjuli.
