VHP playing dual role in foreigners issue: AIUDF

By Correspondent

BARPETA, July 28 Barpeta MLA and AIUDF leader Abdur Rahim Khan has accused the Viswa Hindu Parishad (VHP) of playing a dual role in the foreigners issue with communal politics and said that if any untoward incident happens in the State, the VHP working president Prabin Bhai Togadia would be solely responsible.

Talking to reporters here, Khan refuted Togadias charge that AIUDF president Badruddin Ajmal was playing communal politics, and demanded arrest of the VHP leader for his hate speech. He also made it clear that the AIUDF has not tried to annexe Assam with Bangladesh, but it was the BJP, with its allies like the VHP, that has been engaged in a conspiracy by their soft stand to a section of the refugees. He claimed that AIUDF president has demanded sealing of the international border with Bangladesh on the floor of the Parliament.

The AIUDF leader also criticised the VHP and the BJP for their soft stand towards the immigrants. There is no scope of dual laws in India regarding the foreigners problem, he said, adding, the AIUDF favours action under the Assam Accord as per which March 25, 1971 is the cut-off date for deporting illegal foreigners. He also informed that his party has been demanding update of the National Register of Citizens following the current laws, but the BJP and the VHP have been putting a barrier on it with some unlawful activities.

Khan also demanded immediate arrest of the VHP leader and informed that the issue will be intimated to the Central Government requesting it to censure Togadias speech.
