GUWAHATI, Sept 20 � The United Brothers Challenge Veteran Football Tournament got under way at the Judges� Field here today.
In the inaugural match, Reserve Bank of India defeated Assam Police by 2-0 goals while in the other match of the morning session, Gauhati Town Club played a 1-1 draw against Morning Star Club.
In the afternoon, Dakhin Bang Football Club outplayed ASEB 3-0 while host United Brothers Club edged past Latasil Sports Club 1-0. The host team placed themselves in a better position for a semifinal slot from the B group after playing a 1-1 draw against Morning Star Club in the second match. Altogether eight teams are taking part in the meet which is being played in league-cum-knock-out basis.
The tournament was formally inaugurated by noted journalist Homen Borgohain. city SSP Anand Prakash Tiwari was also present on the occasion.
The remaining matches along with the semifinals and the final will be played tomorrow.
