Varun rakes up influx as election issue

GUWAHATI, Nov 28 � The BJP�s youth face Varun Gandhi who is on a whirlwind election campaigning tour to the State chose to woo voters by promising an �Assam free of foreigners� at one of his public meetings held on Sunday.

Varun addressed three rallies today starting with Sarukhetri and followed by Kamalpur and Hajo. In all his public meetings, Varun touched on the issue of illegal migrants and assured that once the party gets the mandate in the coming Assembly elections, it will give topmost priority to the vexed foreigners� issue.

Criticisms were hurled against the ruling Congress by the young leader who said that the Centre has been exploiting the State by using most of its resources and giving away only 30 per cent as return.

On the other hand, Varun called upon the people of Assam to give a chance to change and assured that the BJP would take up issues that are related to the common men. He also stressed the need for addressing the unemployment situation in the State by encouraging more entrepreneurship activities. He said that the BJP in power would ensure that the poor but educated are not deprived and would introduce a scheme for them that would provide the benefit of availing a five-year interest-free loan amounting to Rs 10 lakh for achieving economic self-sufficiency.

He further said that the party was highly concerned about the marginalized sections of the society and promised to take up projects for their welfare. He said the party taking into consideration the tension and struggle poor parents have to undergo to get their daughters married, will support such parents by providing Rs 15,000 towards the marriage of their daughters.
