Value of damaged properties being assessed in Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH, Dec 18 - About 43 public properties or so called government establishments including a bank, post office, ATM kiosk, panchayat offices, Circle Office of Chabua and railway-level crossing gates etc., were destroyed during the recent protest against Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), now an Act.

Addressing newsmen here, Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal said here on Tuesday that the district administration is trying to assess the value of the damaged public as also private properties.

Deputy Commissioner said that the public sector units like Oil India Limited and NEEPCO were also affected severely. �Efforts are on to bring back normalcy by facilitating transportation of required materials and regularising supply of gas. We are also making efforts to reinstate normalcy in the district so that we could resume all the ongoing developmental cum infrastructure building works in the district,� said the Deputy Commissioner.

On the attacks on family members of politicians, the Deputy Commissioner said that the district administration will deal with iron hands with people who in the garb of protest were targeting family members of politicians.

He further said that the district administration ensured that there is no issue with regard to timely payment of wages and supply of rations in tea gardens during the protest. Banks were kept open on holidays and rations were carried to respective gardens with full security, said the Deputy Commissioner.

He called upon the conscious citizens to cooperate in bringing back normalcy in the district and also to ensure that youths did not indulge in spreading rumours and posting divisive contents in the social media.

Newly-appointed Superintendent of Police Sroojith T, who also addressed the newsmen, said that police has registered altogether 46 cases and arrested at least 27 people in connection with the violence during the protest against CAB. �We are examining video footages and other evidences to find out if more people were involved in the violence,� he said.
