Vajpayees dream corridor to be completed in 2 years: Parimal

By STAFF CORRESPONDENT

SILCHAR, Aug 27 - State Minister for Forests and Environment Parimal Suklabaidya has reiterated the promise made by the BJP-led government of completing the East-West corridor connecting Silchar with Saurashtra via Dima Hasao district within the next two years.

Talking to The Assam Tribune on the sidelines of a function on Swachh Bharat at Assam University, Silchar, the Minister said, There is no major factor now that impedes the project. The dream project of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to connect Silchar with the rest of the country was kept in hybernation for the past 10 years by the former government. But since the BJP came to power both in the State and at the Centre, the project has gained fresh impetus and a new agency is looking after the construction. We hope to offer a workable road in the next one year and the total project for Assam is likely to be wrapped up within the next two years.

Suklabaidya recently visited portions of the roadway along with Cachar Deputy Commissioner Dr S Laxmanan and took stock of the pace of the ongoing construction.
