Vaishnavite kala kendra in Mumbai proposed

GUWAHATI, Feb 23 � A cultural show was organised by the Asom Vaishnav Samaj, Mumbai in association with the Youth Club Mangaldoi, Assam at the Fine Arts Society, Chembur, Mumbai recently, a press release stated.

The cultural show was attended by over 500 Assamese and non-Assamese people from and around Mumbai.

The audience was entralled by high quality performaces by the Youth Club Mangaldoi. The programme consisted of classical dances like Sattriya Nritya, Ghukha, Jhumur Nritya, Matir Aakhara, Deodhani Nritya and other Assamese creative dances including Bihu.

The show was attended by dignitaries including Debashish Sarma, Deputy Resident Commissioner, Mumbai, Shyam Kanu Mohanta, Deputy Commissioner, Customs, etc.

The programme started with a �Banti Prajalan.� In his welcome address, Shyama Prasad Handique, president, Asom Vaishnav Samaj, Mumbai, emphasised the need for a Sankardev Madhavdev Kala Kendra with a naamghar in Mumbai. He also explained that such a kala kendra would help in promoting the teachings of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev and Assamese culture in Maharashtra. In addition, it would act as a cohesive force to unite all the Assamese population in Maharashtra.

UC Deori, secretary of the Asom Vaishav Samaj, requested the Government and non-government organisations to extend all possible help in building this proposed kala kendra in Mumbai, the release added.
