V-C focuses on integrated farming

IMPHAL, Aug 21 - Vice-Chancellor of Central Agricultural University (CAU) M Premjit has underscored the need to adopt integrated farming system in order to boost the income of the farmers.

�Integrated farming is the only option to improve the income of the farmers for which farmers should adopt scientific cultivation�, V-C said while inaugurating a two-day workshop on agriculture at the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) centre in Imphal on Tuesday. He also appealed to the youths to focus on agriculture and its allied business.

�We have to focus on entrepreneurship development programmes, especially for the unemployed youths,� he informed. General Manager PN Praveen Kumar of NABARD, Manipur Regional Office Imphal and Director N Prakash of ICAR Research Complex for North Eastern Hill (NEH) region, Meghalaya also attended programme.

NABARD Manager Praveen Kumar while delivering his speech highlighted the prospects and importance of getting bank loans and other important banking areas for the farmers and entrepreneurs. Director N Prakash of ICAR Umiam also spoke on the occasion.

Earlier, Principal Scientist Dr G Kadirvel, who is also the Principal Investigator of ABI, ICAR Research Complex Meghalaya, said that the programme has been organised to encourage the farmers. Two technical sessions were also held wherein many scientists and experts shared their views.
