GUWAHATI, Dec 13 � US Ambassador to India Nancy J Powell today called on Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and discussed wide-ranging issues having prospects for bilateral cooperation, including US investment in the State.
Powell who led a trade delegation from the US said that the US firms were keen to invest in Assam. The possible areas of investment, she said, could be IT and IT-enabled services, tourism, power, health care, and agriculture and allied sectors.
The Chief Minister, while assuring the US Ambassador and the trade delegation of every possible support and cooperation in facilitating their investment in the State, said that it was the right time for making investments as the State was passing through a period of peace, stability and development.
The Chief Minister was of the view that areas such as tourism, health-related projects in public-private partnership (PPP) mode, skill development were some of the areas in which the US could make substantial investments. He also assured them of the advantages accruing from making investments in the State.
Powell said that the North-East was starting to figure prominently in the scheme of things of the US, as was evident from the interest the US was taking in the region.
