US delegation at Sishu Sarothi

GUWAHATI, Dec 17 � A team, led by American Consul General Dean R Thompson recently visited Shishu Sarothi, a school for the differently-abled in the city. The team from the US Mission had a firsthand experience of the institution that catered to young people with a range of disabilities.

Arman Ali, executive director of Shishu Sarothi, said that the Consul General and his accompanying officials were briefed on the activities of the organization that also has a full-fledged Disability Law Unit. The US team acknowledged the work being carried out by Shishu Sarothi in the area of special education and related areas.

Ali described the talks as very fruitful and expected sharing of knowledge and insights in the days to come.

Consul General Thompson, who is personally interested in special education, revealed that robust ties could be developed between US entities working in the area and their counterparts in Assam. It may be mentioned here that special education has made rapid advances in the US and some of those are being studied and replicated in different parts of the world.
