UP police looking for 2 accomplices of Qamar

GUWAHATI, Sept 19 - The anti-terrorism squad of Uttar Pradesh is still looking for two other Hizbul Mujahideen operatives who accompanied hardcore terrorist Qamar-uz-Zama to Kanpur where the latter was arrested.

A top Assam Police official, when contacted, said that the UP Police have shared certain relevant information on the matter, on which Assam Police is working on. Investigators have claimed to have unearthed �clinching evidences� from Qamar�s cell phone that was recovered from his possession.

Meanwhile, a special team of National Investigation Agency (NIA) today reached Hojai after which they questioned all the seven accused arrested on charges of maintaining close links with terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen. It was based on the tip-off from the NIA that Qamar was arrested.

�The accused were today grilled for several hours and statements were recorded for corroboration,� sources stated.

Sources also divulged that senior officials of Intelligence Bureau are also closely monitoring the development.

Assam Police had arrested the seven accused following Qamar�s arrest in Kanpur on September 13. Qamar, who hails from Assam, had even recently visited the State with another accomplice of his.

Qamar, a Pakistan-trained hardcore terrorist of Hizbul Mujahideen, was arrested by the UP Police while he was planning terror attacks and had surveyed certain areas during his stay in Kanpur.

He is currently in the custody of Uttar Pradesh Police and had reportedly divulged during questioning that he and two of his accomplices had stayed in Shivnagar area in Kanpur.

�We are not sure whether they had fled but efforts are on to track them down,� sources pointed out.

Sources informed that the UP Police have also shared its inputs with other States including Jammu and Kashmir, where the duo might be hiding.

Sources in Hojai Police, meanwhile, said, �No new revelation has come out today and the investigation agency is on the job.�
