Poetry Book By Tiken Das Published Posthumously

BARPETA, Jan 24: Kot Pao Nidanar Maat, a collection of poems by progressive writer, social worker and poet Tiken Das was published by Janantik, a socio-cultural organisation of Barpeta and was formally released today at a solemn function held in the Ambikagiri-Banikanta Barpeta Sahitya Sabha Bhawan.

Gunindra Nath Das, MLA of Barpeta released the book in a function presided over by Hemen Das, president of Janantik.

In his inaugural speech, Das termed Tiken Das as a great soul of Barpeta with tremendous creativity and thanked Janantik for bringing to light such a person after death as Tiken Das avoided hype during his lifetime.

He expressed hope that publication of the writings will acquaint the new generation with this creative work and inspire them to imbibe his ideology.

Speaking on the occasion, veteran writer, thinker and former president of Barpeta District Sahitya Sabha said that Tiken Das was a progressive writer in the true sense of the term with unique features in his poetry which enriched Assamese literature by his poems of exceptional thought, diction and style.

Columnist Subhajyoti Das said that Tiken Das will live among us for ever through his poetry. Bibeka Ranjan Raychoudhury, compatriot of Tiken Das and Ranjit Kumar Kalita, Professor of DIET also spoke on the occasion.

Earlier, a portrait of Tiken Das was garlanded by Swaraj Das, wife of Tiken Das. Veteran dramatist, director and actor Nirmal Das recited a poem by Tiken Das. The workers of Janantik informed that a book of lyrical collection by Sushil Kumar Das and a brief account of the artistes of Barpeta will be published soon by the organisation.
