By The Assam Tribune

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, Aug 13 - A fast unto death by unpaid working teachers of Lakhimpur district entered the fourth day today with many teachers falling ill.

The teachers body has been on a hunger strike at the Tyagkshetra here and demanded regularisation of their jobs.

On Sunday, Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah called on the fasting teachers at the Tyagkshetra and assured to convey their demands to the Chief Minister on August 17. This made the fasting teachers furious, who demanded immediate response from the State Government.

The fasting teachers also took the district administration to task for not deputing any physicians to monitor their health status. The agitating teachers pledged to end their lives at the Tyagkshetra if their just demands were not met by the Government.

Earlier on July 25, the unpaid working teachers of three-four districts units of Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Jonai and Majuli had planned to plunge into the Rahdhala Pukhuri in DK road of North Lakhimpur in a bid to protest against the Governments apathy towards their two decade-long problem.
