UNLF claims JCILPS convener not its member

IMPHAL, June 5 - Proscribed outfit United National Liberation Front (UNLF) in a statement here has clarified that the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) in Manipur is neither instigated nor sponsored by UNLF. Further, JCILPS convener Khomdram Ratan was not related to the outfit in any way, it claimed.

On June 2, Manipur police had announced a Rs 5 lakh reward to those providing information leading to the arrest of Kh Ratan, Convenor of JCILPS besides registering a criminal case against him for being a member of UNLF and for indulging in prejudicial activities against the State.

Meanwhile, BK Moirangcha has taken over as Convenor in-charge of JCILPS after Ratan tendered his resignation. Earlier, Ratan claimed that the charges against him was nothing but a plot to tarnish the ongoing movement. � Correspondent

Arms recovered in Manipur

Imphal, June 5 - Security forces have seized a stockpile of arms and ammunition from Senapati district of Manipur, officials said today.

During a search operation last Thursday by a joint team of Assam Rifles and the Army�s Red Shield Division near Tamphung village, the jawans spotted some bamboos lying on the ground covered with grass in the jungles, they said.

After cordoning off the area and searching it, a stockpile of arms and ammunition were recovered which included one AK-47 series rifle with ammunition and one .22 assault rifle, officials said. � PTI
