GUWAHATI, Nov 7 - The Government of Assam has decided to organise a �Unity Walk� to observe the birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi on November 19 as a mark of tribute to the efforts of the late Prime Minister to unite India.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi recently convened a meeting with senior officers at his office chamber to chalk out a detailed programme to observe the day. The meeting decided to organise the �Unity Walk�, inviting the participation of the people from cross-section of the society symbolising the glorifying age-old bonding of the nation and cutting across all caste, creed and religion. Moreover, there will be a day-long programme showcasing women entrepreneurship where women achievers will be felicitated along with a host of other programmes.
The meeting also discussed to chalk out a programme to observe the 126th birth anniversary of the first Prime Minister of the nation, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in a befitting manner. Chief Minister Gogoi directed to include games and activities showcasing the unique mosaic of the greater Assamese society in sync with the Children�s Day celebrations. Local tribal games, speech, science exhibition, extempore speech, etc., have been lined up along with other programmes for the day.
Chief Secretary VK Pipersenia, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister MGVK Bhanu, Police Commissioner of Guwahati Police Mukesh Agarwalla, Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup (M) Dr M Angamuthu and Director, Information and Public Relations Ranjit Gogoi were present in the meeting.
