Union Minister visits Sikkim

GANGTOK, May 29 � Union Panchayati Raj and Tribal AffairsMinister KCS Deo attended a meeting with the Zilla and Gram Panchayat members of Sikkim which was organised by Rural Management and Development Department at Chintan Bhawan.

The Union Minister stressed on holding of Gram Sabhas regularly ensuring that every voter participates in the sabha. On the Rajiv Gandhi Panchayat Sashaktikaran Abhiyan, he mentioned that it is an innovative programme of the Government of India to strengthen the Panchayats throughout the country to ensure that people can ultimately benefit. On the occasion, a documentary on the status of Panchayati Raj in Sikkim was also screened.

He also participated in the colourful Sakewa cum Tourist Festival 2013 at Saramsa Garden in East Sikkim. Sakewa is a festival of the indigenous Rai community to thank mother nature for all its bounties. Chief Minister Pawan Chamling who also addressed the gathering, drew the attention of the Union Minister to the pending demands of the State.

Earlier, BB Subba, Lama Pema Rinzing Bhutia, Dhurba Luhagun, T Loden Lepcha and PM Rai were felicitated for their contributions in their respective fields.
