Union minister to review NE urban devp progs

AGARTALA, Nov 29 - Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri will arrive here tomorrow to review the Centre�s flagship urban development programmes in the North Eastern States, official sources said.

On the first day of the visit, the Union Minister and Secretary in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs Durga Saran Mishra will hold a meeting with Urban Affairs ministers of the North Eastern States to review the progress of the Centre-sponsored schemes. After the review, a comprehensive plan for the North Eastern States will be formulated on the basis of inputs provided by the States.

The status of Smart City, AMRUT, PMAY (U) and Swachh Bharat Mission- Urban schemes will be reviewed thoroughly. Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, who also holds the Urban Development portfolio, is likely to seek special assistance for developing mini Smart City projects in the urban areas.

The State Government will push for mini Smart City plans developed by the NBCC to tackle the housing problem and if the Centre extends help, the State may go for a mini Smart City plan near the Akhaura check post, said a senior official here today.
