Union minister reviews tribal welfare programmes

SHILLONG, Dec 5 - Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Jaswantsinh Bhabhor today reviewed the Central Government programmes and policies for the uplift of tribal people of the State and expressed satisfaction over the State Government�s efforts in this regard.

Bhabhor held a meeting with State Government officials at the Secretariat here. He later said that new proposals had been received from the State Government, which the Centre would consider.

Lauding the efforts of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, he said that the Meghalaya Chief Minister is looking after the welfare of the tribals properly and also ably supporting them. �It is the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to build a new India and it is important to take the tribals along for the holistic development of the country,� he added.

Bhabhor said it is important that the Centre and the State Government must work in tandem. �The Centre and the States are both trying to work for the welfare of the tribal population in the country,� the Union minister said.
