Uneasy calm prevailing in Karbi Anglong district

By Correspondent

DIPHU, June 10 - The incident of lynching of two Assamese youths from Guwahati on the evening of June 8 at Panjuri village near Kangthilangso under Dokmoka Police Station continues to draw massive public protest in Karbi Anglong district.

Superintendent of Police of Karbi Anglong Dr Siva Prasad informed that 16 persons were arrested in connection with the barbaric incident.

Deputy Commissioner Mridul Mahanta today conveyed a peace meeting at Diphu Circuit House where representatives of various social, youth and student organisations condemned the mob violence, moral policing, rumour mongering and hate speech against any community or religion.

Padmashree Prof. Rongbong Terang protested against a particular political leader who indulged in hate speech against the Karbi community in a local TV talk show yesterday.

In the meantime, widespread panic has gripped many parents here whose children are studying in Guwahati, Nagaon, Jorhat and other places of the Brahmaputra Valley.

A section of anxious parents have therefore appealed to the Assam Government to ensure safety and security of their children.
