Undertrials escape from juvenile home

By The Assam Tribune

GANGTOK, May 6 Three undertrials gave the slip to securitymen and escaped from a juvenile home here.

Two of them, who fled away from Juvenile Observation Home at Sichey on April 29, were traced to Singtam, 27 kms from here the following day. However, the third is still absconding, police said.

According to police, the three had been asked to fetch water to clean the place at around 3.30 pm. Upon completing the task, they are reported to have then proceeded to the top floor of the juvenile home from where they made their escape through the unbarred window.

A complaint was lodged with the Sadar police station by the caretaker. The next day itself, two of the escaped undertrials were traced in Singtam and taken into custody. Efforts are on to nab the third, the police said.

While two of the undertrials are accused in a burglary case, the third has been booked under Sikkim Anti-Drugs Act.
