Understand Assamese people�s sentiment, Sabha urges Govt

GUWAHATI, Dec 11 - The Asam Sahitya Sabha today warned both the State and the Union governments not to create more disturbances in Assam and the North East.

In a statement, Sabha president Dr Paramananda Rajbongshi and general secretary Padum Rajkhowa alleged that both the State and the Central governments are responsible for the current situation where along with students, all sections of people have come out to the streets against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB).

The Sabha also urged the government to understand the sentiment of the Assamese people. It also slammed the government over the incidents of lathicharge and use of teargas against the agitating students and public.

It said that every person has the right to protest in a democratic manner and urged all sections of society to continue with their stir against the CAB.

Meanwhile, members of every district committee of the Sabha will carry out torchlight rallies on the evening of December 12. On December 13, the Sabha members will resort to five-hour hunger strike at its Jorhat and Guwahati offices.
