ULFA(I) asks NEEPCO, NHPC to leave State

GUWAHATI, Sept 4 - The United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) today asked the NEEPCO and NHPC to leave Assam and threatened of serious consequences if the companies fail to do so.

The ULFA(I) in a release here said water released from the NEEPCO�s Ranganadi project created havoc in north Assam, while the 2000 MW Lower Subansiri project of the NHPC would create more trouble for the people.

The ULFA(I) also opposed the government move to set up colleges in the name of Deendayal Upadhyay and a university in the name of Rabindranath Tagore. It said naming educational institutions after persons having no contribution to the State is not acceptable. The previous Congress government also named various institutions after persons having no contribution towards Assam, it said.
