ULFA talks led to fall in violence

NEW DELHI, Aug 17 � The Centre today said that peace initiatives with ULFA have led to declining trend of violence in Assam.

The outfit has advised its cadres to implement the decision to shun violence in letter and spirit.

On July 12, ULFA has announced to shun violence and armed campaign for an indefinite period, Minister of State for Home Affairs Ramachandran said in a Rajya Sabha reply.

�The Government of India has always shown willingness to enter into dialogue with any group, which is willing to abjure the path of violence and place its demand within the framework of the Constitution of India,� he said.

The Minister further said that the first round of talks between representatives of governments of India and Assam and ULFA was held on February 10 at New Delhi.
