BATASHIPUR, Jan 19 - Vehemently condemning the recent subversive activities like kidnapping and killing of innocent people carried out by ULFA (I), former Union Home Secretary Dr GK Pillai commented yesterday evening before the media at Banasur Fwthar at Batashipur, the venue of All Bodo Students Union golden jubilee closing ceremony, that under the present circumstances ULFA (I) ideology is an outdated concept for the people of Assam.

There is nothing new to discuss about the militant outfit, he said. In the name of waging an armed revolution, the so-called ULFA (I) supremo Paresh Baruah is simply maintaining a network of misguided cadres and committing subversive activities from time to time, the former Union Home Secretary observed.

Dr Pillai, who visited Batashipur for attending the inaugural session of the four-day closing ceremony of ABSUs golden jubilee celebration, also mentioned that he was the mediator during several rounds of negotiation between the ULFA (I) and Government of India and met their leaders in jail.

He also mentioned that the outfit was from time to time carrying out certain anti-social activities with the support of NSCN (K) in Upper Assam, though to no avail. He also said that the recent setting ablaze of a number of oil tankers in Upper Assam is also the handiwork of the NSCN (K).

Mentioning about the Naga framework agreement, Dr Pillai further stated that it would take some more time for finalisation. Replying to a query regarding the activities of Pakistan, he admitted that Islamabad was not Indias friend, and creating disturbance in India all along was their intention. He also suggested that the Union Government should establish BoPs along the Sino-India border for prevention of unwanted skirmishes that often take place in the area.
