ULFA (I) cadre remanded

JORHAT, Nov 20 - A judicial court here today remanded Ulfa-I militant Dewal Jyoti Dutta alias Diwar (20) to seven days police custody after he was produced before the court.

Dutta, who reportedly served as bodyguard to one of the top and dreaded Ulfa-I leader Dhrishti Rajkhowa, was arrested last night from his house at Bahona Naborachuk under Bhogdoi police outpost on the outskirts here.

A police source stated that Dutta has been booked under Sections 120-B Criminal Conspiracy), 121-A (Waging or attempting to wage war), 122 (Collecting arms, etc., with intention of waging war against the Government of India) and 387 (To commit extortion) of the IPC in the case number 2828/2018 registered against him in the Jorhat Police Station.

The source said that Sections 10 and 13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 too have been applied on him. Police yesterday got a tip-off about the cadre visiting his residence reportedly to attend the marriage ceremony of his sister.
