ULFA cadres lay down arms

TINSUKIA, July 21 - Following continuous pressure from the security forces, several cadres of the United Liberation Front of Assam (Independent) surrendered before the men in uniform here.

After the arrest of a cadre of the outfit, namely Dharmajit Baishya at Jairampur along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border, another member of the outfit named SS Surajit Moran @ Nirab too surrendered before the Tinsukia Police on Wednesday morning.

On the same day, three other ULFA (Independent) cadres, namely Sergeant Major Joydip Moran @ Nirab Handique, Karunjyoti Chetia @ Uddipon Asom and Polash Das @ Latumoni Asom surrendered before Tinsukia Police.

They handed over 149 live cartridges and several pairs of Army fatigue to the police. According to Superintendent of Police Siladitya Chetia, many more ultras are willing to surrender as the pressure inflicted by the security forces is being continuously increased against the outfit within the district.
