UK varsity professor interacts with GU teachers, students

JALUKBARI, May 12: A lecture-cum-interactive session was held on May 10 and 11 in the Gauhati University Institute of Science and Technology seminar hall with Prof Uday Kishore from the Department of Biosciences, Brunel University London.

The event was organised jointly by the Gauhati University Alumni Association and the Gauhati University Institute of Science and Technology.

Prof Kishore was an alumnus of Delhi University, where he pursued his MSc in cell biology. He has held a string of distinguished positions, including those of NASA Fellow at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, California, USA (1995), European Commission Research Scientist at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine, John Radcliffe Hospital, University of Oxford from 1999 to 2003, Director, Centre for Infection, Immunity and Disease Mechanisms, Brunel University London, UK from 2009-2015.

The event was attended by Prof Ramesh Chandra Deka, former director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, GU Vice Chancellor Dr Mridul Hazarika, GU Rector Prof HP Sharma, students, research scholars and faculty members representing various academic departments of the university and colleges as well.

Prof Kishore introduced the audience to ground breaking research on immunology. He further elaborated on the need for achieving a scientific temperament in today�s competitive and innovative world.

An interactive session was later held between the faculty members, research scholars, students, professors of Gauhati Medical College and Dr Kishore regarding the future collaborative works on research and student exchange programmes between Brunel University and Gauhati University.
