JORHAT, Nov 7 - Police on late Tuesday night apprehended two youths who reportedly possessed narcotic substance at Dohoborasuk locality near the Town Railway Station here and arrested them.
A police source said the duo identified as Shiva Saikia (26) and Gopal Das (29) � both residents of Royal Road here � were reportedly found to have possessing 10 grams of narcotic substance suspected to be brown sugar.
The duo arrested in the Jorhat Police Station case number 3153/2019 under Section 21(B) of the NDPS Act were allegedly returning from Dimapur via train with the narcotic substance, the source informed.
An amount Rs 3160, two train tickets, one Honda Dio scooty, one mobile phone were seized by the police from the possession of the youths, the source stated.
The arrested persons are believed to be members of a gang which is involved in drug trade and narcotic substances allegedly brought from Dimapur, the source said.
The source further said that police were looking for another youth for his involvement in the drugs peddling.
Samples of the suspected narcotics substance will be sent to the State Forensic Science Laboratory in Guwahati for necessary tests for confirmation, the source added.
It may be mentioned here that on the night of August 5 this year, a police team had arrested a lady along with two minor boys from near the yard of the Jorhat Provincial Railway Yard and recovered about 13 grams of narcotics, suspected to be brown sugar, from their possession.
The trio reportedly had come from Dimapur on a train with the suspected narcotic item.
