Two-term Jagiroad MLA Bibekananda Dalai dead

JAGIROAD, April 22 - Bibekananda Dalai, who was the Congress party�s two-term former Jagiroad MLA and Parliamentary Secretary of PWD, Government of Assam, died at a nursing home in Guwahati in the wee hours today following a protracted illness. He was 51.

He leaves behind his father and former Congress Minister Prasad Chandra Dalai, wife, one son, a daughter and a host of relatives. His last rites were performed at his native village Santipur at Dharamtul in Morigaon district in the presence of a large gathering, including APCC president Ripun Bora, other Congress leaders like Rani Narah, Rakibul Hussain, Akon Bora, Bolin Kuli and Imdad Hussain, among others.

Various organisations, including individuals paid floral tributes on his mortal remains at the Rajiv Bhawan here.

Local MLA Piyush Hazarika in his speech said Dalai�s death is an irreparable loss to the political and social field of the constituency. �I pray to the Almighty for eternal peace of his departed soul�, said former Jagiroad MLA Bubul Das.

Bibekananda Dalai was the general secretary of APCC and elected to the Assam Legislative Assembly from Jagiroad (SC) constituency in 2006 and 2011.
