MORIGAON, Oct 9 - Two rhino poachers were killed in an encounter with STF personnel at Sitalmari char under Bhelowguri Police Station in Morigaon district at about 1.20 am on Tuesday.
According to information, acting on a tip-off, a team of Special Task Force (STF) conducted a search operation at the Sitalmari char. On seeing the STF personnel, the poachers taking shelter in the area fired at the personnel and a gun battle ensued. In the hour-long gun battle, two poachers were killed on the spot. However, some of them managed to escape under cover of darkness. The STF team later recovered one .303 riffle, one silencer, swimming tubes and other items. Later, videography was done in the presence of an Executive Magistrate. The bodies were later sent for post-mortem.
