IMPHAL, Oct 17 - Close on the heels of one senior Congress leader and former Manipur Minister joining the BJP ahead of 2017 Assembly polls, two more former Ministers joined the opposition party on Monday.
A formal reception for the two political heavyweights was organised at the BJP State office here today which was attended by party�s national secretary Ram Madhav, NE in-charge Ajay Jawal besides State president Kh Bhabananda. BJP legislators Th Biswajit and Kh Joykishan also attended the function.
The two political heavyweights who joined BJP are former Irrigation and Flood Control Minister Nongthombam Biren and former Rural Development Minister Francis Ngajokpa.
Former Food and Civil Supplies Minister Yumkham Erabot had also left the Congress on September 12 and joined BJP.
�I resign (from the ruling party) because of its dictatorial style of mis-governance,� alleged Biren, who quit Congress on October 6.
Former Minister Francis who tendered his resignation on October 13, following �pressure from workers�, stated that he joined the BJP to work for the welfare of the constituency and the State.
Earlier, former Congress MLA Dr Kh Loken also joined the BJP.
Assam Finance and Health Minister and Convenor of North-East Democratic Alliance Himanta Biswa Sharma told the gathering that BJP which is committed for development of the region, will surely come to power in Manipur after 2017 polls.
